Social protection

Italy within the European context

Social protection expenditure is an indicator connected with the adopted welfare as well as with the income level and the social composition - it is higher in countries where the population age is polarized on young and/or old age . In 2013 per capita expenditure in Italy was 7,942 Euros in a year, that was above the Eu28 average ranking twelfth in the 28 Eu countries. If compared to Gdp, Italy social protection expenditure ranked higher being ninth and again above the Eu28 average with a value of 29.8 percent. The European context showed that expenditure values over Gdp were quite variable ranging from 14.4 percent in Latvia and 33.7 percent in France.
